A HAMPSHIRE decorator killed himself in a city graveyard, an inquest heard.

Alan Dawkins, 40, was found hanged near St Bartholomew’s Church in King Alfred Place, Winchester , in February.

He had recently separated from his wife Victoria and had moved in with his mother in Rances Way, Badger Farm.

Mrs Dawkins, also a decorator, of Worthy Road, said he had talked about killing himself.

She said: “I never thought he would hurt himself, I thought he was saying these things to hurt me because we had separated.

“The Saturday before he died we had a bit of a row because he came over to my house and I had a male friend round.

“I don’t know what conclusions he jumped to but when he left he said this is the last time he was ever going to see me.”

Sarah Whitby, assistant deputy coroner for Central Hampshire, recorded a verdict of suicide.
