STUDENTS have been combining their studies with fundraising at Southampton Solent University, with their efforts so far raising £50,000 for good causes.
Some £2,000 has been raised this year alone by students studying the Event Organisation option unit on the BA (Hons) Adventure and Extreme Sports Management course, Sports Studies with Business, Football Studies and Marketing.
Every year up to nine groups of students are asked to fundraise £250 by organising a special event that is assessed by their tutors.
This year, these included a golf day, a blind date game show, a film night and a casino night. Causes benefiting from their money spinning work include The Rose Road Association; the Saints Foundation; Cancer Research UK; BBC’s Children in Need and Barnardo’s.
Liam Higgins, unit leader, said: “It is very hard work, and the students learn a lot about themselves and working with others.”
