Inspired by the magnificent sea of red around the Tower of London, pupils at Mountbatten School created their own poppy display.
On Monday, all 285 students in Year 10 studied a selection of poetry from the Great War in their English lessons. They looked at poetry by Wilfred Owen, John McCrae and A. E. Housman among others.
Each student was then asked to write a personal response to the poetry on a red poppy.
English teacher, Sian Carter, commented: “Our students are in a generation that are not directly connected to the war anymore and as a department we felt it was important for students to learn about the significance of the centenary commemorations. We are really proud of their work and the display is a beautiful way to remember.”
