THESE could be the first lambs in England born this year.

The Suffolk cross Mule lambs were born on New Year’s Day at Sparsholt College and took their first tentative steps outside when they were just over a week old.

The two males are the first of the season at the college, where staff are expecting 471 lambs from 249 ewes.

Agriculture students Chloe Adams, 18, from Ashley in the New Forest, and Elizabeth Waters, 23, from Newbury, were on hand to make sure the new arrivals did not get into any mischief.

The College is hosting its first open day of the year tomorrow (Saturday) to help Year 11 pupils decide their future.

The college offers courses in various agricultural and outdoor careers.

Principal Tim Jackson said: “Open days are the ideal opportunity to meet lecturers and discuss in detail the various courses we offer. This college is renowned for its impressive campus and facilities, all of which will be open for tours, often guided by students who can share their experience of studying here.”

The open day runs from 10am until 3pm. For more information visit sparsholt.ac.uk or call 01962 776441.
