IT was a case of ‘to infinity and beyond’ for more than 60 pupils at five Hampshire schools who took part in a unique rocket launching challenge.

Rockets built by Year 9 pupils from Cantell Secondary School, King Edwards VI, St Anne’s Catholic School, Upper Shirley High School and Brookfield Community School were blasted off into the atmosphere as part of a Starchaser rocket event.

Daily Echo: Sophie Holliday, Sophie Harris, Hannah Elton-Dobbin and Hannah Rignall, with their rocket.

The event was funded by the Ogden Trust who promote the teaching and learning of physics and saw 12 pupils from each school take part, and a total of 16 rockets were fired.

It took place in the grounds of Brookfield Community Schools and organiser Helen Strutton said the event was a huge success with students who were enthralled by the rockets being fired.

Mrs Strutton, said: “It has been very positive, the teenagers have worked together really well and seem to be quite excited by the rocket launch.”
