A HAMPSHIRE MP is encouraging local schools to join the Troops to Teachers programme.
Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has written to schools in Hill Head, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent and Gosport about the scheme and highlighted its benefits in Parliament.
The programme looks to recruit former service personnel into teaching and is one of a range of school-led courses into teaching intended to make career change easier.
During questions to the Department for Education, Ms Dinenage highlighted Gosport links to the armed forces and asked whether the minister would agree that it “can only help to spread expertise to students”.
The Minister for Children and Families, Edward Timpson, said he strongly encouraged local schools to secure a trainee for their school for this September.
“The Troops to Teachers programme is a fantastic initiative which really takes advantage of the unique skillsets of former service personnel,” said Ms Dinenage.
