It was a stroke of genius.

Cute puppies were sent for in a bid to calm stressed students feeling the pressure of the exam season.

Solent University Students Union's first ever Puppy Room event had tongues and tails wagging on Tuesday when six dogs visited with volunteers from Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The event saw more than 300 students come to cuddle a puppy in return for a donation to the charity.

The puppy room was the idea of Naomi Oiku,  Students’ Union president, who said: "We have received a huge amount of positive feedback about how relaxing and therapeutic the students found it.

"Both the volunteers and the dogs were excellent and we cannot thank them enough for the time and effort they put in with our students."

Naomi said that it was hoped that more than £300 for charity.

"Due to the overwhelming show of support from the students for the puppy room we are looking into the possibility of holding more events of this nature in the future,” she added.
