AROUND 1,600 school children were treated to a free musical performance during the annual Hampshire Music Service’s Primary Proms.

Music consultants Liz Davies and Nicky Watling led two two-hour long concerts at the Anvil in Basingstoke.

The programme included performances from Hampshire Music Service’s own Youth String Quartet, Youth Percussion ensemble and Gosport and Fareham Youth Concert Band, who are celebrating their 60th anniversary this month.

Also peforming were Hounsdown Vocal Group and All Saints Church of England (Aided) Junior School Orchestra and Choir from Fleet.

Content highlights also included a composition by an All Saints young pianist Bolun Tan called Down the Rabbit Hole and a percussion piece, Rebound, that included the use of basketballs!

Hampshire Music Service is auditioning for new members for its ensembles. For more information call 023 8065 2037, or email music.service@hants.gov.uk.
