STUDENTS at a Southampton secondary school in Southampton are set to end their term on a high as their teachers stage an end of year celebration in the form of a ‘Big Picnic’.

Over the past six years, the school has organised the event which is a reward to all students at Bitterne Park for their hard work and achievements over the year.

It is also an opportunity for new and emerging bands to play to over 1,000 pupils on the school field.

Previous acts in years gone by have included performances by such bands at the Delays, The Revs, Simon Webbe from Blue and Charlie Wheeler.

This year's line-up also includes some famous faces.

Acts that will be taking to the field include Insomnia, Groove Merchant, Rich Cottell, Just Millie and Prime Kingz (of X Factor fame).

Bands also on the line-up include The Novatones and Hometown, Louis Walsh’s new Irish boy band who recently performed to pupils at Crestwood school.

Deputy headteacher Pan Panayiotou said: “The Big Picnic is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate with our students their achievements and for new emerging talent to showcase themselves to new fans.”
