FRIENDS and family gathered to recognise the achievement of their loved ones.

Students from Oasis Academy Mayfield, were presented awards for their academic achievements at the school’s annual Festival of Achievement Awards.

Each year the school gives praise to those students who have gone the extra mile in their learning and in helping other achieve high standards.

As well as current students, the awards recognised previous year 11 students who had achieved high GSCE results.

Each year group from the Ashley Crescent secondary school nominated their fellow students for showing a outstanding excellence in a range of subjects including Maths, Geography, History, Science and English.

Principal of Oasis Academy, Phil Humphreys said: “As teachers, parents and members of the community, the greatest pride we share is when the young people in our care achieve success.

“Our Festival of Achievement is a highlight of the Academy year and the culmination of the hard work that goes into ensuring excellence for everyone at Oasis Academy Mayfield.

“We have seen the depth of academic excellence we have from our wonderful new Year 7’s, all the way through to our GCSE record breakers.”

The event began with an introduction from Mr Humphreys, along with words of congratulations from head boy Robbie Brodie and head Girl Amy Watts.

Before each year group was presented with their award by the principal, with four lucky students –Bill King, Hannah Woodman, Oliver Downer and Emily Leeah – were handed the principal’s award by guest of honour Sheriff of Southampton, cllr Catherine McEwing.

Parents were in high praise for the students, with one mother saying: “It was a brilliant evening, what an amazing Academy we have with so many talented children.

“It was lovely to be a part of, here's to world domination.”

Mr Humphreys closed the ceremony by praising the students once more, adding that it had been a night to remember and every single student should be proud of their achievements.
