TWELVE outstanding Maths and Science students were honoured at a college awards ceremony.
The teenagers had been nominated by their teachers at Brockenhurst College Some had achieved 100 per cent exam results, while others had overcome personal barriers to learning.
Each winner picked up a certificate and a text book to recognise their achievements.
The awards were presented by Martin Symons, Operations Director and Natalie Lang, Research and Development Chemist, both from local firm GEO Specialist Chemicals UK LTD, which sponsored the event.
Maths award winner George Downing, who is planning to study chemical engineering at university, said: “I’m humbled to receive this award; it’s a big pat on the back. Brock was my first choice of college and I am very grateful for all the support I’ve been given.”
Mr Symons echoed the point about support, saying: “The healthy science and maths learning culture at Brock means we now have a rich pool of talent on our doorstep.
“I think there are some fantastic days ahead for STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, Maths) subjects at the College, especially given all the recent investment.”
The students who received awards were: Katie Knighton (Applied Science), Lewis Collins (Biology), Morwenna Grigg (Biology), Tom Price (Environmental Studies), Gigi Cheng (Chemistry), George Downing (Chemistry), Lucy Waterman (Geology), George Downing (Maths), Isaac Hadfield (Maths), Joseph Stretton (Maths), Sohaib Imran, (Physics), Matthew Edwards (Physics).
