A TEENAGER was left with knife wounds after an attack at a Southampton school.

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after an incident which took place about 2pm yesterday at the Oasis Academy Mayfield School, in Ashley Crescent.

One child is reported to have sustained a minor injury. Officers are at the scene and speaking with two pupils and have seized a bladed article.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokeswoman said they were currently working with the school to ascertain exactly what has happened.

A spokesman for the school said: "We are aware of an incident that took place at the Academy today that was swiftly made safe by staff, and it is now being investigated by police."

He added Oasis Academy Mayfield had no higher priority than the safety and personal wellbeing of its young people in the school, at home and in the community.

He said the Oasis Academy Mayfield had an extremely robust policy on safeguarding and if ever there was an incident in which any of its students’ wellbeing might be at risk they always acted immediately to make the situation safe.

"Unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated," the spokesman added.

The 15-year-old boy has been released on bail until April 10.
