A HAMPSHIRE junior school is hoping to raise £500 to help children in Africa.

Victoria Turner, a teacher at Townhill Junior School, is spending her summer in Ghana at a children’s home, with one year six class aiming to add to the £350 already raised.

An Easter egg raffle, school cake sale and an online fundraising page have all been set up by class 6T to support Victoria’s trip between August 6-28 this year.

Victoria said: “I’m going to Ghana in the summer as a personal trip. I organised it through Plan My Gap Year, a trip organisation service, where they pay for your food and accommodation, but you have to pay for your own flights.

“They don’t make any money, so I wanted to go through them, and they have a partnership to Kumasi children’s home. When the children in my class found out that the home’s 200 children don’t have many things, they wanted to get involved.

“We’re having a non-uniform day and a cake sale on April 6 for our break time. It will only be 15 minutes, but we’re hoping to raise as much as we possibly can!”

l Raffle tickets, at 20p, can be purchased from the school, and to donate to the fundraising page, visit justgiving.com/crowdfunding/victoria-turner-6T.
