A MEMBER of Labour’s shadow cabinet was today speaking to teachers and students at a Southampton college.

Stephen Twigg, pictured, MP for Liverpool and shadow education secretary, visited Itchen College to hear views from disgruntled students about their GCSE English results.

More than 130 pupils were directly affected when students who entered for GCSE English in January 2012 needed lower marks to pass than those who entered in the summer.

It meant some students who took their exam and were assessed in June performed better than students who took their exams in January but were still awarded a lower grade.

Mr Twigg met with head teachers before answering questions from students at 3pm.
