A HAMPSHIRE school
where all pupils are
allowed to shine has
been given top marks
by inspectors.
Colden Common Primary
School was given the top grade
of outstanding during its latest
inspection by the Office for
Standards in Education.
The 267-pupil school was
praised for its excellent head
teacher Julie Mullane who
inspectors said was well supported
by both staff and governors.
Pupils were found to enjoy
learning in the school where both
teaching and learning standards
were found to be very high.
Inspectors praised the staff for
providing countless opportunities
for individual pupils to
shine and complimented the
school for its partnership with the
village community.
Educational standards were
praised with children making
excellent progress from the beginning
so that by the time they left
standards were well above average.
Children with special educational
needs were also found to
make outstanding progress.
All lessons were described as
well planned with an emphasis
on making sure pupils enjoyed
their learning.
However some parents felt that
they were not being kept fully in
the picture about what was happening
in the school C a concern
the school has pledged to address.
Mrs Mullane said: I am delighted
that the inspectors recognised
the childrens high standards of
achievement and progress and
also their personal development
and well-being which is outstanding.
I have always been confident
that the quality of teaching and
the support provided by the learning
support assistants is of a high

this judgement was validated by
the inspectors when they
observed lessons in every class.
