Lib Dems increase grip on Eastleigh
THE Liberal Democrats increased their iron grip on Eastleigh Borough Council by taking another seat from the Conservatives.
Hamble and Butlocks Heath was the only ward to change hands last night.
Veteran Tory councillor Bill Pepper was beaten into second place by Lib Dem newcomer Susan Ingram.
The Lib Dems now hold 38 seats, the Conservatives four and Labour two.
The Tories have been wiped out in Eastleigh's southern parishes and a jubilant Lib Dem group leader Keith House said: "There are no Conservative councillors in Chris Huhne's parliamentary constituency. It is pretty miraculous. Hamble has always been a bastion for the Conservatives."

So long as people are absolutely sure of the policies they are voting for and not just registering a protest then good luck to them, but I expect common sense, prudent finance and a dose of pragmatism from whoever I vote for, hence nobody who would replace a reliable electricity supply with a million windmills then tax me for the privilege is going to get my vote. But I am sure we can look forward to Eastleigh proclaimed a "nuclear free" borough whatever that means (and even though it isn't), school sports days will be cancelled as being too aggessively competitive, and christmas will be banned in case it causes offence....

I console myself that Mr Chris Smarmy Hulme will very likely lose his seat at the next Gen Election.

Personally I think the cinema/bowling complex will prove a massive boost for the town and will drive up interest from retailers in High St/Market St as well. I have some concerns about the number of residential properties being built without an increase in infrastructure, but that is happening all over the UK, no matter what colour your council is.
My local council vote is not related to who I'd want running the whole country.

The ward where I live didn't change hands, but the neighbouring Hamble and Butlocks Heath did. I suspect that Mr Pepper was voted out because his colleagues up the road in The Castle want to impose gravel pits in the area. Personally, he may not want anything to do with the idea, but he's felt to be guilty by association.

Eastleigh is in deed a weird place. Following the Stephen Milligan 'incident' they elected Chidgey, who was as wooly as Shaun the Sheep, and now Huhne who's as much of a toff as David Cameron. The town itself is in a state of inertia, unable to compete either with Southampton or Winchester (despite being a fraction of the size commands a much larger economy).
I can't understand why anyone would ever vote Lib Dem?
