GET the sunglasses and slap on the sun cream as Hampshire is set to bask in more hot weather today.

The mini-heatwave that has swept across the country will continue, and temperatures are set to reach 26 degrees in the county.

However weather experts and health professionals have repeated calls for people to stay safe in the sun.

South Central Ambulance South NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS) is urging people to take up their safety advice to prevent sun-related conditions.

Their safety advice includes reducing the risk of dehydration and sunburn, by avoiding long periods of time in the sun during the hottest part of the day, between 11am and 3pm, wearing a hat, drinking a minimum of two litres of water a day and using sun tan lotion with a sun protection factor of more than 15.

They have also urged people to never leave children or pets in the car, not to jump into shallow water from bridges or piers, and to drink alcohol responsibly.

SCAS operations director, Mark Ainsworth, said: “We are encouraging people to follow our advice and stay ‘Summersafe’ to ensure that you and your friends and family don’t end up needing our assistance this summer.”

The Met Office say that the hot weather will be very similar to yesterday, but with a chance of showers in the morning.

A spokesman said: “It is hot so people should take sensible precautions, obviously people want to go out and enjoy the weather, but they should be careful and make sure they are not adversely affected by the heat.”

The weather is expected to cool down tomorrow as temperatures will drop to 20 degrees. and will remain in the twenties for Friday and throughout the weekend.
