A HAMPSHIRE university has been awarded £135,000 to help its work to boost its green credentials by cutting carbon emissions.
Southampton Solent University has received the grant from an £11m national pot after signing up to slash its CO2 output by a quarter over four years.
The university has a dedicated group aimed at finding ways of improving energy efficiency, including installing insulation, reducing heating and lighting in its buildings, and helping staff and students to be more energy aware through a series of campaigns.
The funding from the Higher Education Funding Council For England will allow Solent to carry out more energy-saving work.
The university’s environmental and sustainability manager, Martin Walton, said: “The grant will allow us to substantially accelerate our existing programme, link energy usage more closely to individual faculties and departments via additional automatic electric meter reading, and raise awareness of the university’s commitment to emission reduction.”
