Mystery surrounding new Southampton Football Company Ltd

MYSTERY surrounds a business set up in the name of Southampton Football Company Ltd, which has an ex-professional player as its only director.

Rumours abound that the business, which was only incorporated earlier this month, some seven days after Southampton Leisure Holdings PLC went into administration, could be a springboard to launch a bid for the club.

It’s only registered director is Rufus Brevett, who is a former QPR and West Ham defender, who owns all 100 of the company's registered share capital, valued at a total of £100.

The SFC Ltd name potentially is mere coincidence but Brevett, now 39, has previously been linked with groups aiming to take over League 1 clubs Swindon and Tranmere – a fact that’s fuelled the speculation.

The Daily Echo yesterday visited the company’s registered address at 2 Old Bath Street, Newbury – a plush building on a thriving street on the edge of the town – and is the home of accountancy firm Ross Brooke.

Among other accountancy business, Ross Brooke advise companies on potential mergers and acquisitions.

They say they can “identify potential targets for M&A, screen targets for suitability, prepare a negotiating strategy, raise the necessary capital, develop an integration plan, optimise the tax and financial position of the combined enterprise.”

In the summer of 2007, Brevett, was appointed Swindon’s sporting director to provide a link between then boss Paul Sturrock and the board.

Around that time, Best Holdings SGPS, a Portuguese investment company, announced they were taking control of Swindon only to pull out few months later.

The Daily Echo has attempted to contact Mr Brevett but has so far been unable to speak to him.

See today's edition of the Echo for the full story.

I would lay odds Brevett is just a front for a Redknapp-Lampard takeover bid.

Mr fry,do not entertain either Brevett or Best Holdings, failed chancers at best, see Tranmere and Swindon for the evidence of this, they failed on both accounts, all abit fishy and i'm not just talking about that lot up the road.

More chance of Rufus Stone selling out St Mary's.

Two phrases come to mind:-
1) Another "red herring" (distraction), let's just concentrate on the on the pitch priority of winning today and then next week. COYR.
2) ####### Hell, are Rufus Stone still going? On the ligher side. if so, they could not play "down the road" (another link with Herring), as "they" don't have facilities for disabled and/or zimmer frames etc. "Rock on Saints".

That would be the same Saints Forum where all the users think they are privy to insider knowledge and have been conned by about a dozen takeovers of Saints!?!

LOL.

In my mind, this is the problem with the Internet - everyone seems to think they can suddenly do what professionals can.

However, just because you can put something on YouTube does not make you a director, and searching for something on Google and sticking it on a forum does not make you a hard hitting journalist.

Interesting fact for people, Southampton Football Club Ltd have only got until the end of the month to submit their accounts to Companies House otherwise they will be fined, their year end is 30th June, so why the delay???

Is Southampton Football Club the same as the Club asking for money in 'Save Our Saints'? Or is this a different company? Can we be told?

This is indeed another 'red herring' story which the Echo could have avoided and which does nothing to further the existence of Southampton Football Club.

Save our Saints has been set up by the fans and Southampton Football Club. Southampton Leisure Holdings is now in the hands of the administrators who are not asking for our money but want the fans to fill the stadium to show the investors that the fan base is still strong even in a club almost certain to be relegated!

If anyone is doubting whether to go on Saturday just bear that in mind! Lets show the world that Saints supporters will not go quietly and will fight alongside the club! This is not about the players...it isn't their fault we're in this position. Lowe first didn't give Pearson the job he then got rid of all the decent experienced strikers and got in Portvliet to play the youth team in a strange formation with 1 upfront at home!

Lets hope we can do a Leicester next season!
