SOUTHAMPTON foster carer Gill White has been caring for local children for more than 31 years.
Offering a stable and nurturing environment for vulnerable children to thrive in, she has provided a loving home to over 200 children.
“The difference you can make to a young person’s life can be huge,” says Gill, 54.
“It’s often hard work and some of the children can be quite challenging because of the backgrounds they’ve come from, but the rewards make it all worthwhile.”
Greg Allen, recruitment officer for Foster Care Services at Southampton City Council says: “We have an increasing shortage of foster carers and need local people to come forward to help support children in Southampton.
“A lot of people will unnecessarily rule themselves out of applying as they think they won’t be accepted when the only requirements are that you can offer a loving home and have the space to do so.”
