THE heads of opposing camps over controversial plans to add fluoride to the water supply of nearly 200,000 Hampshire residents have met for the first time.

The meeting comes as preparations step up ahead of the three-month public consultation on the proposals, which will start on September 8.

As revealed in the Daily Echo, the exercise - which will include drop-in events and a Question Time-style debates - has been put back from mid-August at the request of local authorities.

Last week, the board of South Central Strategic Health Authority, which will oversee the consultation and make a final decision on fluoridation, agreed to use the delay to change educational material to include more of the arguments against fluoride.

The plans have been put forward by Southampton City Primary Care Trust PTC) as a last-ditch attempt to solve chronic dental health problems, particularly in more deprived areas.

Health chiefs say around 15 per cent more children would be free from tooth decay if the amount of fluoride in the water is increased, as happens in some other areas of the UK and countries like Ireland, Australia and the US.

But anti-fluoridation campaigners argue it is wrong to force indiscriminate mass-medication on the population, and say there is evidence to show it is linked to health problems.

Hampshire Against Fluoride, which is leading the protests against the Southampton scheme, point to reports showing increases in fluorosis - causing discoloured or mottled teeth - as well as bone cancer, thyroid problems and even brain damage.

Ahead of the public consultation, the organisation's chairman John Spottiswoode met with bosses from the PCT.

Mr Spottiswoode said the meeting had been productive, but the health chiefs had failed to assure him the concerns have been taken on board.

"We were there to listen as well, as to why they are doing what they're doing," he said.

"It was clear they hadn't heard a lot of the stuff we brought up with them. The big question is that they say they were listening, but did they really hear what we were saying?"

PCT chairman, Pauline Quan Arrow said the discussion had been useful.

"The PCT is keen to ensure there is a mature and intelligent discussion on water fluoridation to ensure the public fully understands all of the available health evidence," she said.

"All of the issues raised had previously been considered during the PCT's decision-making process to support fluoridation, which involved investigating all peer-reviewed, scientific research, expert advice and evidence from existing fluoridation schemes in the UK and worldwide."

Here is the reply from my Australian friend when asked about his water supply.

"We have had fluoride in our water for many years and the Government insists it has improved tooth health markedly.

I along with most people don’t drink tap water. I have a rainwater tank on the side of the house and boil that water for drinking water." Chris.

If they provide all the available health evidence on water fluoridation, then the whole crazy idea will be thrown out.

I am appalled that this is being considered. If I wanted to take fluoride I am sure I can find some way to get it without making everyone else have it as well.
As far as I am concerned this is forcing me to take something I do not want to take. If it was any other substance I am sure I could sue for common assault!

The question is; "Is this a decision based on saving money in the NHS or are they genuinely concerned for our dental health?" Or, perhaps it's a scheme to reduce the amount of water used by encouraging everyone to get water butts, B&Q here we come!

The sad facts are ingested fluoride has no benefits. WHO data shows very few fluoridated countries and they have no greater cavity decrease then do not. This is policy driven not science. Even the now now admits the predominate benefit of fluoride is topical and only imply 1ppm drinking has that benefit. They have no science to prove it or even suggest it can happen. At 1000ppm as it toothpaste yes it can have some topical reminerization but so can calcium and phosphorus with no toxicity. The very dirty secreis that in children the young ones swallow so much they ususlly have more ingested damage then benefit. The ADA on their site claims most of the ugly dental fluorisis is from toothpaste and poor supervision by parents. The box has a picture of a brush loaded but then in small print says only use pea sized dab of the candy like treat. Do not leave easy access to kids they will sneak eat the deadly toxin. This is a cumulative toxin more deadly then lead and almost as toxic as arsenic and 19 of the EPA Unions have asked congress to treat fluoride the same with a goal of ZERO also. They also mention it has no ingested benefit. It is just stupid to ingest it. Indiana tested dental professionals for fluoride knowledge and discovered only 17% understood the current science. Only 14% in Illinois. By the way a dental website The Wealthy Dentist discovered 15% of the dentists are against water fluoridation. They mad many strong comments about the evils of fluoridation that the public does not hear. Also notice about the same Percent that understand ingested fluoride has no benefit oppose it in our water. Fluoridation seems to only be supported by fluoride ignorant professionals. See fluoridealert.org or waterloowatch.com for many easy to watch researcher videos. Real science not ancient flawed policy that benefits no one and damages many. 51% of children have enamel damaged by toxic levels of fluoride overdose in kids Pizzo 2007. The York Review 2000 showed that fluoridation tripled damaged enamel from 15% to triple at 48% with 12.5% being damaged so ugly as to need cosmetic restoration. The cumulative toxic effects also cause even more risks to all which the 507 page NRC 2006 report showed. Not listened to just proved a risk . Policy is to important to change just because it does not work for the government and dentists. Read the current science. Jim Schultz

How many times can we say it before these people understand! If as they claim Fluoride assists in the health of childrens teeth
( this statement in my view and many other noted scientists from around the world is simply not true)then let those parents whos children need it get it from their GP, After all every other medication is given as and where it is needed. we do not force feed the nation because a minority have a problem, while the rest are just too **** lazy to teach their kids basic hygeine. NO NO NO!!!!

If Fluoride is as safe as they claim, why then, did they need to bring in a law, ahead of the fluoridation drive, to protect the Water companies from being sued? (The Water Supply (Fluoridation Indemnities) (England) Regulations 2005)

This has been carefully planned for some time....and it stinks of corruption...

I believe it is in the public interest to reveal which companies will be supplying the Fluoride.
We need to know whether there are financial links between the government and these companies.

This information has been refused so far, which begs the question, What are they trying to hide?

Folks - Write the following to Southern Water (address on your bill)

"Having taken legal advice I wish to inform you that should Flouridation go ahead, I will be deducting the cost of bottled water, from my monthly bill. A substantial number of other people will be doing likewise. (16,820 people have already stated via the Daily Echo, that they DO NOT consent to Fluoride in their water supply)

Southern Water will have to recover their losses from the Department of Health.

This is all laid out in the The Water Supply (Fluoridation Indemnities) (England) Regulations 2005"

Individually we can be bullied, but together we have POWER.

People really dont realise how dangerous this stuff is. Its a toxic waste product that is extreamly difficult to get rid of.what better way than getting the public to pay for drinking it!!! You may be able to deduct the cost of your water from your bill, but the total of the bill you deduct it from will include the cost for fluoride too. Fluoridation was used, by the nazi's, funded by the rockerfella institute of USA to keep the captives mellow and sterile! Prozac is something like 94% flouride! Anyone whos taken it will know how it 'dumbs you down.' Who would want to give that to there kids? Consider also, there are high levels of fluoride in tea(before water), the nations favorite drink which happens to consist mainly of water. The fact the laws have changed to stop water suppliers being sued should make anyone suspicious, instead any compensation will come from the Dept of health which is funded by....YOUR TAXES. Every time fluoridation goes wrong, we will pay higher taxes to put it right. Then you add in fluorisis, bone cancer like lukemia, and also higher risk of alzeimers, which coincidently has been steady on the increase since toothpaste became the next best thing to bread. Everytime you leave that banana flavoured toothpaste on the sink you are risking your childs life as consuming only 1/2 a tube can easily kill. There are no warnings becasue they dont want to draw attention to the fact consuming this stuff is incredibly dangerous! DO NOT BE DIVIDED!! If you feel your opinion wont change a thing, then join hands with someone else, together you are stong. Remember, it might be hard to fight off an attacker on your own....but if there are fifty of your friends behind you, who do you think would win? They are attacking us!!

Please DO NOT let them pull the wool over your eyes on this one - If not for your health than for that of your children. True - If left on the surface of teeth for a prolonged period of time it may (only possibly) have a strengthening effect on your teeth. However I dont know many dentists that specialise in any other areas than oral health. Think ? - you are swallowing this substance and dentists do NOT know what happens past the point of injestion - the people who do know are being told to shut up - WHY ?
Mass medicating the population is what is being suggested here. Flouride affects the blood brain barrier and is not only highly toxic but stores itself on the pineal gland - look this up and see for yourself - the pineal gland connects us with our sub conscious and without it we would be mindless slaves and the goverment wouldnt want that to happen would they ???

Sandy - send your letter. The law is so badly written that the water company is s***ting itself. There will be legal guidance come Jan 09 (if needed) from parties that will be taking action via Europe.
