GIRLS from the area will get their thinking caps on as they take part in a week of technology events at IBM's headquarters in Hursley this week (July 7 to 11).

Female students from Henry Beaufort School, as well as other schools in Southampton, will take part in IBM's EX.I.T.E Camp, which aims to show how a career in technology and engineering can be exciting.

Thirty-six girls, aged 12 and 13, will take part in a number of challenges throughout the week, including solving murder mysteries and designing robots.

The event, which IBM has held for seven years, offers opportunities for the pupils to explore, create and even get messy with science and technology. As well as hearing talks from subject experts and meeting employees in roles they may never have imagined, each team will invent their own product and take it through the development lifecycle.

At the end of the week, parents, teachers and visitors will hear from the students, who will present the fruits of their labour.
