Hampshire man to cycle 1,000 for cancer charities
3:10pm Monday 4th February 2013 in Health
Charity cyclist Nic Christie with his mum Carolyn.
A HAMPSHIRE man is going to cycle nearly 1,000 miles to raise money for charity.
Nic Christie, 47, a police custody sergeant from Cosham, will ride from John O’Groats to Lands End in May to raise money for bowel cancer charities.
He first got the cycling bug last year, when he cycled from Portsmouth to Penzance to raise money for Children in Need, and he planned to tackle John O’Groats to Lands End for the charity.
But when his mother Carolyn Christie, of Allington Lane, West End, was diag-nosed with bowel cancer, he decided to change charities.
Not only does he have to battle the road and elements when he takes to the saddle, he also has to endure the pain of a prolapsed disc.
He said: “When I heard my mother’s news I was devastated but it’s given me a fresh focus.”
