MEET supermum Sian Taylor who has lost more than nine stone in less than a year after she became so overweight she put her newborn baby in danger.

Tipping the scales at 23 stone and wearing a size 28, the morbidly obese mum-of-two was distraught when medics rushed off to save the life of her second baby Poppy.

Midwives called for emergency help after she suffered shoulder dystocia, which means one or both the baby’s shoulders get stuck behind the mother’s pelvis.

It meant her head was born five minutes before her body and she was being starved of oxygen.

The 29-year-old, says: “I felt helpless and was in floods of tears. All I saw was her lifeless body, and I didn’t know if she was going to survive. I didn’t even have a chance to hold her. I have never been so scared.

“I felt like the worst mother in the world.

A mother’s role is to help and protect her child. I could have ended up killing my baby because I was so big. I shouldn’t have put her in that situation.” But today Sian is determined to make her two daughters Poppy, 1, and Willow, 2, proud by being an inspiration for them.

Daily Echo:

She embarked on a life-changing diet and less than one year later she’s a svelte 13st 5.5lbs for her 5ft 8in frame, with her BMI down from 49 to 29 and she feels happier and more in control than ever.

“I’m a totally different person. I now have the confidence to do things I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing before.”

Though it is upsetting for her, Sian wants to tell her story to inspire others that they can become healthier without drastic diets or surgery.

Sian says she was overweight from childhood and was bullied at school.

Suffering a difficult personal life, she says the bullying at school made her feel so low she even thought about taking her own life.

In science, when children had to get on scales to study weights, they all crowded around taunting her and shouting abuse wherever she walked at school.

“It got so bad I felt worthless. It got to the point I’d be ill at the thought of going in. I didn’t want to be around anymore.

“If it wasn’t for the thought I wouldn’t be able to do that to my mum, I don’t think I would be here.

“It completely shattered my confidence and my self-esteem.”

She says college was easier but when she went to university she suffered more personal heartache, making her resort to comfort eating yet again.

Daily Echo:

When she met her fiance Tim Ndowora 11 years ago, she was told she would find it difficult to have children due to her weight.

However, she was overjoyed when she became pregnant and had a routine birth with her first child Willow.

But when she became pregnant with her second child, she began suffering health problems. Serious chest pains meant she was rushed into hospital for emergency scans.

She was also made redundant from her job as a telesales manager whilst pregnant.

But following the traumatic birth when Sian was unable to hold her newborn, she was so horrified, she resolved to lose weight.

Though Poppy initially was unable to use her arm, she suffered no lasting health issues.

And Sian knew she had to act, especially when a family visit to a theme park led to her being publically mortified when workers had to fetch a special extension belt for her ride seat.

“I hit rock bottom and I knew if I didn’t act, my babies would no longer have a mummy. I was killing myself and I was out of control.”

Sian, who lives in Chandler’s Ford, approached her GP who referred her to Slimming World as part of a scheme run by the NHS which gives patients 12 free weeks.

In August last year she went to her first group and hasn’t looked back since.

She swapped fatty and calorie-laden food for wholesome low fat alternatives and hearty home-cooked meals with fresh fruit and vegetables and the weight fell off.

Today Sian says she’d still like to lose another two stone, but she is already enjoying the benefits as a size 14.

She is a member at Spirit Health Club and loves spinning, boxercise and swimming. On Sunday she completed the Race for Life and ran the entire route.

Daily Echo:

Her hard work has even landed her a job as a Slimming World consultant so she can inspire other people to lose weight two evenings a week in Chandler’s Ford.

“I feel amazing! I am now doing something positive with my life, and while I still feel shy, I am so much happier that it radiates from me.

“Because of what I have experienced throughout life, I am a caring, good-natured person who just wants to help other people and be there for them.

“For the first time in my life I feel proud of myself. I’m actually living rather than just existing.”

But Sian says the best thing about losing weight is being able to play with her daughters.

“I have never felt better, healthier or more positive in my mindset. I can go out with confidence, buy modern clothes and run around with my girls.

“My inspiration is my children and I hope that now I can be an inspiration for them too.

“I didn’t have a future before but now I see a future with my girls and Tim.”
