A SOUTHAMPTON doctor has been honoured for his work improving healthcare overseas.
Dr Ollie Ross, consultant anaesthetist at Southampton General Hospital, received the McColl global health prize for boosting skills, training and facilities in Nepal.
Dr Ross formed the voluntary staff society Southampton Overseas Health and Medicine (SOHMED) in 2007 to work in rural hospitals in Kathmandu to enhance skills.
The team visits twice a year to help with training and has also created a video library of techniques to assist teaching.
Dr Ross received the award from Lord Ian McColl, chairman of international health charity Mercy Ships UK as part of the Southampton Global Health Day.
