AN INNOVATIVE Hampshire legal firm working with sufferers of spinal cord injuries has scooped a top award.

Aspire Law, a partnership between Southampton-based Moore Blatch and charity Aspire, won the accolade for Alternative Business Structure of the Year at the Lawyer Awards.

Legal eagles from across the country descended on London’s Grosvenor House Hotel for the awards which recognise the legal industry’s finest.

Aspire Law is a partnership between the two organisations that is dedicated solely towards working with people who have suffered spinal cord injuries.

Lawyers from Moore Blatch work alongside Aspire’s experts and draw their knowledge of providing services for people affected by the injuries.

Issues tackled by the team include housing, education, care and rehabilitation and family support.

It works under a social enterprise model meaning that the charity receives 50 per cent of profits to fund its work, which includes a housing scheme for people discharged by hospital without anywhere to live.

The firm was only launched last year but is already looking to expand and now has a prestigious Lawyer Award trophy.

It now has hopes to become recognised as the specialist provider for all spinal cord injury compensation claims.

The firm beat five other finalists to the award, which was presented by former Foreign Secretary William Hague.

Aspire Law’s legal director Damian Horan said: “We are delighted to have won this award, which not only recognises the hard work put in by the whole team, but also a new and innovative approach to Spinal Cord Injury work that Aspire Law is able to offer.

“This is an excellent start for the business, which is still in its first year of operation and provides a solid base to continue to build from.

“We believe Aspire Law provides genuine competition within the market and combines strong legal expertise."
