HUNDREDS of runners donned their gear at a Hampshire beauty spot to raise money for charity.

The event at Stokes Bay, Gosport, was in aid of Cancer Research and 400 women ran between one and four miles around the coast.

It was revealed before the race that since the beginning of 2015, Slimming World groups in Gosport and Fareham had between them lost a combined 78,376 pounds - the equivalent of more than 5,500 stone.

And Jane Hall, who organised the race, believes the event could be a kick-start for women in the area to do more exercise and increase their fitness.

She said: "Hopefully the event will inspire more people to get involved and show just how motivating being part of a group like ours can be."

Instructor Liam Walsh, who runs Bridal Boot Camps, gave those taking part a warm up before setting them on their way to run their chosen distance.

He will also be donating £8 to Cancer Research UK, for every person that joins in August.

The Slimming World organisation was founded in 1969 and now boasts more than 12,000 groups across the UK and welcomes thousands of new members each week.

Cancer Research UK funds scientific work looking into more than 200 different types of the condition affecting men, women and children across the UK.
