Crews from St Mary’s and from Redbridge fire stations were called to Coxford Road at about 10.20pm on Saturday night after the bus ploughed into the the side of the building.
It collided with the teenage oncology unit in the West Wing of the hospital.
No-one was evacuated and no one was injured in the incident and crews helped with cleaning up after the incident.
Structural engineers are have spent all morning at the scene to assess the damage.
The area around the bus was sealed off to prevent people getting too near, although it is hoped the vehicle will be removed by early afternoon.
A spokesman for University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said: "No-one was injured as a result of this incident but we are working with the bus company to establish how it occurred.
"The fire service was called immediately and, as part of its assessment, conducted internal and external safety checks of the affected area.
"The site's security team cordoned off the area to ensure patients and visitors could access the building's west wing entrance as normal."
