HUNDREDS of people have learned how to embrace a healthier lifestyle at a health and wellbeing roadshow in Southampton.

The One You roadshow hit the streets over three days with specialists spreading the word on how residents can boost both physical and mental health.

It follows health chiefs pledging to improve the city's health after a damning report naming Southampton as among the top 10 fattest places in the country.

An obesity study from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) showed that there were out of every 100,000 people in Southampton admitted to hospital there were 1,755 where medics recorded a ''primary or secondary'' diagnosis of obesity - more than double the national average of 811 per 100,000.

Under the three-day initiative people were able to undergo a series of tests to check their health including blood pressure readings, Body Mass Index (BMI) measurements and carbon monoxide testings and get advice on anything from eating healthier and doing more exercise to quitting smoking and cutting down on alcohol.
