Southampton academic urges action in war on obesity

Professor calls for action on obesity Professor calls for action on obesity

A Southampton professor is urging governments to step in and take action if the war on obesity is to be won.

In his new book, Fate, Fate and Disease, Prof Mark Hanson, from the University of Southampton, calls for governments to take responsibility for the health of women and children to prevent future generations from suffering from conditions such as heart disease.

He claims that the current trend to place that responsibility on the individual is not working.

It comes following an international study, led by the university, which revealed that during pregnancy, a mother’s diet can alter the function of a child’s DNA.

If we really want to cut obesity, why don't we tell McDs where to stick their 120 new jobs?

Is it not just natures way of trying to thin out (please excuse the pun) the population? If you can't work out (another pun) that if you put lots in you have to work lots off you deserve to suffer the consequences.

Well don't die totally broke. It will probably cost extra to dispose of porker on health and safety grounds by then.

Hospitals should take responsibility too - Southampton General could set a good example by getting rid of Burger King for a start!

Why? If you don't live on them it's not a problem and no one is forcing people to eat there. Personally I would prefer to stay hungry than eat there but that's just my choice. Perhaps some folks just haven't realized that they have a choice? I think it's called weak brain syndrome.

Its down to the parents what they feed their kids, and i guess some dont care what they feed them. Then on the other hand, maybe they want to feed them healthy food, but the problem is, healthy food is very expensive. Its cheaper to buy multi packs of frozen food to feed the family and it freeze up. Buying fresh veg on a daily basis go's off quick.

Stick fresh veg in the fridge and you will get a week out of them. Where's the problem?
