A TEENAGE cyclist is fighting for his life after being involved in a road crash in Eastleigh last night.

The 17-year-old male pedal cyclist was travelling along the southbound carriageway of Woodside Avenue when he was in collision with a silver Ford Galaxy.

He was treated by paramedics on the scene and rushed to the Southampton General Hospital with life threatening conditions. He is said to be in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The accident happened at 7pm directly opposite the Halford and Comet superstores. The road was closed for about three hours while a major road investigation swung into action.

The driver of the car has assisted police with their inquires and investigations were continuing today.

Police are particularly keen to speak to the drivers of two cars who were believed to have been directly behind the Ford Galaxy at the time of the collision.

Woodside Avenue is near one of the busiest junctions on the approach to the town centre and leads in and out of the giant Boyatt Wood industrial and residential estate.
