THE train drivers' union Aslef has suspended the proposed four days of strike action across the South West Trains network, due to start on Monday, following talks on Wednesday.
Aslef suspended the strikes to allow its executive committee to consider three options put forward by management.
South West Trains will now run a normal service next week including through Andover on the main Exeter to Waterloo line.
The train drivers' union, Aslef said in a statement: "The industrial action planned for next week on South West Trains has been suspended following a formula agreed between negotiators for the company and ASLEF, the train drivers' union.
"The draft agreement will be considered by the union's executive at its meeting in mid-April.
"This will be followed by a referendum of ASLEF members in SWT to judge its acceptability. At that stage the action will be re-imposed or called off."

Polite Polish - where's that then? Just goes to show how little people know on this site doesn't it? It's not just about the pay - it's about the amount of hours worked! I suppose you all get up at 3 am and work that shift for 7 days a week. You lot make me sick and I am sick of hearing about the Polish. Believe it or not there are some English who work **** hard for a pitiful wage, employed by greedy employers reaping all the profits and paying little in the way of tax. The Polish can only afford to live here because they are all living in cramped housing conditions. They don't even put their money back in this economy - they send a high proportion of it home. Can't wait for my mortgage to be paid off because I will be leaving this crap country for pastures aknew, just like a lot of the decent hardworking English people!!! You lot can stay with the Polish!!!

Traindrivers want 41k, that is obscene. It requires no qualifications and that is about double what nurses earn. i am not advocating polish workers but i think that the wage traindrivers are on is sufficcinet taking into consideration the level of skill required.

If you read my post properly Mark, I wasn't referring to the train drivers' wage as pitiful and I also said their strike wasn't just about pay, but also about the amount of hours they work in a week. As for nurses, as far as I am concerned they earn a decent wage; at least they get to pick and choose their shifts a majority of the time and can work agency for £150 a night - 3 of my friends/family are nurses and that is fact!

I have always believed strike action is a form of blackmail.
If you don't like the pay or conditions then don't take the job. If your job description changes during employment then look elsewhere.
By the way Linda, the hours they work are ACTUALLY normal working hours but they CHOOSE to work overtime at there own choice.
I do accept that they are often pressured into overtime but they have a mouth and can say NO!
I think strike action should be made illegal, it is no less than blackmail.

Anyone who strikes, sack them and replace them, how may dole people do we have? Hundreds, get rid of them and do us all a favour so we can travel when we want without these idiots causing chaos
Go get another job, try a supermarket stacking shelves at least it will involve movement!

I can't wait for your mortgage to be paid off, and for you to bugger-off to whichever country will take you.
I suspect people like you will never be satisfied and will always find a good reason to have a whinge.
Quite fankly, I'll take a dozen Poles, or any other nationality for that matter, who are prepared to invest some time and effort in this country, than unpatriotic wasters like you.
Get off your sofa-ridden, velour-trackie-addle
d backside and get an education and a skill, and then get a job that pays a decent wage, rather than moan about how poor you are. Then you can pay your mortgage off sooner and do us all a favour, and p1ss off.

Nice comments thanks! None of you know what job I do, yet criticise. I did get myself an education and a skill and a decent job! I didn't say I was poor did I? You all make assumptions again. I was trying to stick up for the poorly paid in this country who would probably be better off living on benefits than working for the minimum wage. Someone has to do the low paid unskilled jobs don't they? As for your comments Heather, I don't sit on a sofa all day; I work full-time and always have. Do you? Seeing as you typed your post at 1.18 am perhaps you are at home all day everyday!

I don't understand your assumption about my working life because I replied at 1.18am though. I work full time, from home.
I'm self-employed and am in the office all day today. At least I'm not sponging off my employer's internet. You?!!
By the way, when [italic]is[/italic] your mortgage going to be paid off?
