    School field sale

ANOTHER school playing field in Southampton is to be sold off.

The city council has agreed to sell a two-acre plot at Bitterne Park School.

The land, comprising tennis courts and a grass field, will be transformed into a five-a-side football centre for use by schools and the community.

No objections were made to the proposal during a consultation in October.

However John Avery, from the City of Southampton Society, told councillors who made the decision that he was worried about evening noise and the possibility of the centre having a bar.

Labour leader Cllr June Bridle said that there were planning and licensing issues to be decided later.

The council will lease the land for up to 35 years to an unnamed bidder. The centre operator will pay building costs.

At least it was houses being built on there.

    I love speeding.

Suggest you look up "Non sequitur" in the dictionary.

"and the possibility of the centre having a bar."

Perhaps John could deal with all the other bars first, before worrying about one here.

I live just down the road from the school and have NO recollection of any consultation! Strange that... bet it wasn't what they wanted to hear and it got ignored... like a lot of other things...

I also live locally and can tell you that that consultation did take place. It is certainly worth redaing the letters that come through rather than bin them - also if you see a notice on a lamp post also read it as that can tell you about proposals in your area. I have always found the council to be good at consultation. Having previously lived in an area that was affected byt the stadium being built, and by proposals to for mobile phone masts being installed. The local paper also advertises such consultation taking place.

Funnily enough I do read the letters that come through my door, but I only found out about the junior/infant school plans through other people and the notice in the park!
I did get the Woodmill one though... that they are now 'reviewing'

When did leasing a piece of land become a sale of land?
