A former Saints footballer was penalised by police for being abusive.
Ex-winger Perry Groves, 43, was given a fixed penalty notice after being arrested in the town.
Groves won two league championship medals and a league cup medal while playing for Arsenal between 1986 and 1992.
He also played for Colchester and Southampton, A police spokeswoman said today: ''Police issued a 43-year-old man from Colchester with a fixed penalty notice for a Section 5 public order offence of using abusive and insulting words and behaviour, likely to cause harassment."
She said the man was arrested in the early hours of April 26.
Sources said the man was Groves, and is now a sales representative and soccer pundit.
Two years ago Groves wrote an acclaimed autobiography called We All Live in a Perry Groves World.
