The rider was left lying in the carriageway during a stretch of the major roadworks on the west bound section close to Rownhams Services.

Police confirmed that a two vehicle collision had occurred at 8.13am that was expected to bring traffic to a standstill.

A 50-year-old woman was being treated at the scene for shock.

It was only a matter of time before a rider was injured they need to take more care through the roadworks feb up with them weaving through the traffic the lanes are small enough with stupid bikers weaveing trough cant they just wait take there turn like car drivers have too.

It's difficult when motorcyclists believe they have a forcefield around them which gives them the ability to dodge in and out of traffic on whatever side of the road they feel like without being knocked off!
I love motorbikes, and do feel quite jealous when the zoom past when I'm stuck in traffic, perhaps they could have their own lanes like pushbike riders.

How is the biker? Does anyone know if he/she was injured?

Just to point out that being a biker myself it is very unpleaseant sitting in traffic with car exhaust fumes in your face - hence we keep moving. And No I do not assume that I have a forcefield around me and I take great care when riding - I value my life!!!

I agree with Kathy, I too go through the roadworks at fareham with a degree of caution, I never think I have a force field. With car drivers, a minority drive stupidly & these are the ones we bemoan; it's exactly the same with bikers. A couple of twits who think they are invulnerable give us all a bad name.

For some reason Bikers seem to believe that they can travel at a hugely different speed than the vehicles they are overtaking. Cars and trucks driving at fifty miles an hour are in a fifty mile an hour mindset. Imbecile on bike overtaking at eighty miles an hour is always going to be an accident waiting to happen. Overtake by all means by try passing one vehicle at a time instead of twenty. Last time I rode a bike, it wasn't fitted with an air bag and the crumple zone was my head. Suicide by bike is unfair on other commuters.

I feel annoyed that Bikers slam all car drivers for not looking in their mirrors..not all of us are careless idiots. try driving on the M3 everyday in 50mph heavy traffic and not feel brassed off when bikers cut in and out disregarding other road users..one was bound to come off and many more will until they learn to curb their attitude

On two wheels, Southampton says...
1:22pm Thu 15 May 08

I've just taken up cycling my 7 miles to work after years of sitting in traffic. I can't ride a motorbike so a cycle was the way forward. Tha lack of respect anything on two wheels gets from the car driver has amazed me. The reason people choose two wheels is to get through the jams easier. But it's made harder by car drivers forcing you into the kerb because they don't want you to pass. If you go down the middle of the road you're forced over the white line because the car driver doesn't want you to pass. I really feel for the motorcyclists out on the roads that are full of pot holes, drain covers and bad drivers.

Not an excuse - a reason. Yes it is my choice to ride a bike. Less fuel consumption, less congestion etc. I could say your choice to drive a car (if in fact you have a licence)

Why are these motorbike types always on here moaning ? Everytime there's an accident they get on their high horses and criticise everyone - makes me so angry.

My bike is air cooled, so if I sat in traffic with all the skips, my engine would melt. I dont have nice air blowers to take the heat of the radiator y'see. So yes I filter, even if it upsets a few folk that move over to try and block my progress. Most people are nice and considerate tho.

I agree most are nice and considerate, just a few in BMW'S, Merc's, four by fours & boy racers in their heaps of junk who tend to move to the centre of the lane when they see you coming, but I guess they'd do that to any vehicle overtaking them so it doesn't make them feel inferior.

yup, on board fried eggs on a sunny M3 traffic jam. Loverly. Most people slide to let me through, but the odd person, who I see notice me in their side mirrors often drift quickly to block the gap. Much fun can be had opening their boot for them, or tapping on the driver window - suddenly not so macho when you stop and lean over for a chat. And you can spill your fried eggs in their laps as well.

Let’s face it there is just as much bad drivers as there are idiot riders young & old. However, many car drivers have very little awareness of space surrounding there vehicle and what is happening in the world around them. I myself ride a motorbike for commuting on but also love my car and the amount of idiots cutting me when I’m on my bike is only marginally more then when they cut me up in the car. Personally, I hate all idiots’ driver/riders on the road car & fair-weather bikers since there just as annoying and dangerous as each other.
