Good news from inspection team for Bursledon

"A GOOD school where pupils enjoy learning!"

That's the verdict of inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) after they paid a visit to Bursledon CE Infant School and described the school as "good" - the second highest of four possible grades.

They praised the head teacher, Maureen Knight, for her "strong, calm and thoughtful leadership" and said that with her staff she had created a "warm caring environment"

enabling children to become "committed learners".

The school was found to have made good progress since its last inspection thanks to its effective teaching and good curriculum.

The inspectors complimented pupils' good personal development, which encouraged them to participate well in school activities and take care of their work.

Most parents said that they held the school in high regard.

Standards at Key Stage 1 were average in reading and maths and slightly below average in writing - although most children had lower than average levels of attainment when starting in reception.

Head teacher Miss Knight said: "Everyone at Bursledon Infant School is delighted that the school has been judged by Ofsted as good in every area.

"We are particularly pleased that the inspection process has confirmed parents' views of the school, that it is a happy, safe, well-disciplined environment where children are making great progress and enjoy learning.

"I would like to express my thanks to staff, parents, pupils and governors for their contributions to this very positive outcome, which celebrates the achievement of everyone involved in the school community."
