WANTED - domestic help. Decent pay.

Uniform definitely not included.

It is the job advert for those with saucy qualifications who are looking for a complete change in career.

The advert for a nude cleaner is one you would expect to see in a top shelf magazine or an x-rated Internet site but not at the local job centre.

However, the post of naked domestic help was one of the positions Southampton Jobcentre Plus was offering the city's unemployed.

In addition it gave them the e-mail address of gay porn site Men's Assets where they were told to send information outlining their credentials.

In its advert the company - called Knobs 'n' Knockers - stated it was looking for applicants of either sex to make washing-up and ironing more erotic for its punters in the South East.

The advert told hopeful candidates: "Required for household cleaning duties in the nude. Pinny provided.

Must have pleasant nature."

The position was to pay £10 per hour compared with £6 offered by companies hoping to employ fully clothed cleaners.

A Department for Work and Pensions spokeswoman claimed it could not legally refuse to carry the adverts.

She said: "Jobcentre Plus has a duty to advertise any legal job. Legal vacancies within the adult industry come within this, a requirement which was confirmed in a legal test case brought by the Ann Summers company in 2003.

"The High Court overturned Jobcentre Plus's policy which did not accept certain types of adverts connected with the sex and personal services industries."

She added: "We have safeguards in place to ensure customers are fully aware of the nature of these jobs."

One of the first people to spot the unusual advert was Derek Burrows of Monks Way, Swaythling. He said: "I thought this was a joke."
