Ed Balls in Eastleigh today
MORE big name politicans have descended on Eastleigh today as by-election fever continues to grip the town.
Former Liberal Democrat leader Lord Paddy Ashdown, Labour's shadow chancellor Ed Balls and shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper were in the railway town in a bid to boost the prospects of their candidates.
Lord Ashdown joined Lib Dem hopeful Mike Thornton for a walk about in Eastleigh town centre at lunch time while Ed Balls accompanied their candidate John O'Farrell during a visit to Hendy Motor Group on Leigh Road.
Yvette Cooper later helped unveil a new Labour poster for the by-election outside their Leigh Road campaign office.
Meanwhile Hampshire MEP Marta Andreasen joined the Conservative Party campaign in Eastleigh for the first time since joining the Party from UKIP.
The South East of England representative visited Botley with Tory by-election hopeful candidate Maria Hutchings.

Hardly surprising when cabinet papers got released few years ago it became clear that he’d instructed the officials to stay quite on the real purpose, which was political union. In other words Super State of Europe, and goodbye to our sovereignty.
It was because of that and economic reasons why old Labour’s Bryan Gould, Tony Benn and Arthur Scargill continued opposing the EU.
But will I support Ukip because their clever people with the help of free but highly biased media have recently hijacked the anti EU slogans for their own agenda?
Answer is: NO NO NO.
While leadership of Ukip, which is basically a one man band (according to those who joined it but then left after finding what this organisation is really like inside) may be clever in picking words carefully so that the party's dark side stays secret, even their candidate in Eastleigh could not hide the fact that Ukip is all about xenophobia and has more than its share of xenophobes.
Party has been exposed for having close links with Le Pen and her party in France who are notorious for their fascistic views.
Many comments by Ukip supporters on this site only confirm why their party feels comfortable while associating with Le Pen and her National Front of France.
For those who are genuinely opposed to the EU due to economic and sovereignty reasons there is plenty of choice available within both right and left of British politics.
In my view (obviously others may have different) people should avoid both pro EU Lib-Dems and supposedly anti EU Ukip. Both of them have common denominators; They play on emotions, say one thing while planning to do the opposite, keep on changing slogans to suit the media created hysteria and avoid practising what is preached.
Considering on Ch4 last night UKIP candidate could not answer the even size of population in Romania and was exposed for issuing leaflets confirming exact figures in millions on how may Romanians will migrate to UK, only proves they are exceptionally good at making up scare stories.

Until we exit the EU it does not matter what Party is in Number 10. Our laws are made in Brussels, and we have no control over our borders. Lib/Lab/Con are all pro EU. That is why we need to vote UKIP at every available opportunity.

Is it true that :- Derk-Jan Eppink, a vice-president of the ECR group says UKIP is full of "hooligans" and "bar fighters.

At least Labour, Balls and Miliband have an economics degree unlike poor old Osborne who keeps getting it wrong.
People should know this before they vote.
A new fight over NHS privatisation has just begun. Jeremy Hunt is trying to use new powers, hidden within last year's controversial NHS laws, to force local GPs to privatise more health services. This is one of the things we were afraid might happen - and now our worst fears are being confirmed. We need to do all we can to stop it.
Jeremy Hunt's new privatisation plot is contained within "NHS competition regulations". Usually these kinds of rules get quickly rubber-stamped by Parliament. This time, we need to get MPs and Lords to stand up to Hunt and block his plans.

They borrowed massively to try and put hundreds of thousands of people into useless jobs in order to get the unemployment figures down. We are all paying for their excesses now.
The NHS needs to made more efficient by the way. Just one example is procurement - why do we have teams of buyers in each hospital ordering piddly amounts of drugs, equipment and consumables that you pay retail prices for when you can have regional distribution warehouses that are controlled by a central procurement agency which will have enormous buying power to demand wholesale prices.
It will also reduce administration costs.
Many successive governments have failed to do this and yet it is the first thing that should be put into place in order in order increase efficiency in the NHS so that money could be put into hiring more nurses and cleaners in our dirty, death riddled hospitals.

This by-election should be about Lib-Dem lies told in their last election, and hypocrisy of their candidate promising to save green spaces but supporting covering those with concrete if these are near Botley.
It should be about false promises of Osborne, who shouted from roof top pretending to be the champion who will save triple A ratings and now those have gone into smoke the hypocrite posh boy has started to say it is good for Britain.
It should be vote against ConDem Coalition dictating cuts to local councils.
Most important of all people should reject Coalition partners because they are butchering our NHS.
This is opportunity for saying enough is enough to both the Coalition partners and likes of UKIP.

I have always not only opposed the EU but was against Tory Ted Heath joining its mother by signing the treaty in Paris. I will vote Labour for the very first time next election. I genuinely think Miliband and Balls are the only ones with any merit to govern.
I have also done a lot of research on Tory party claims and found them to be quite misleading and untrue.
Labour are no longer a left wing party but more centralist and the right wing parties have moved more to the right.
In any case whoever wins it is only until 2015.
Labour would walk the next election if they had a fair immigration policy.
They need to come up with something to re negotiate with the EU to be able to somehow limit numbers by only accepting essential employees only and to have a domestic policy whereby employers give preference to nationals over immigrants.
People mustn't pick on immigrants because they are doing the best that they can for themselves and it is the government's fault if there is an open border policy.
Mind you after Osborne has finished not even the immigrants will want to come here lol!

It is time for a real change and a fresh voice with radical new ideas in Parliament...reasons for voting for Diane James and the UK Independece Party on Thursday...As for the cheap jibes of UKIP supporters being little Englanders consider this; is so rich when it is New Labour's thirteen years of hurt, and continued by this Liberal Coalition that has not just made England almost insignificant but the whole of the UK. So thanks to thirteen years of New labour under very pro EU; Blair and Brown and now Europhile Clegg we are very much little Britain controlled by the European political elite in Brussels & Strasbourg. If you not only want to make England but Britain great again then cut us free from this dead man walking; the failed European Union. Let's rediscover our pride in our once great nation and put the great back into Britain by using the business language of the world ENGLISH to trade with everyone; without the red tape and heavy restrictions our continued membership of this union of losers. Yes I am proud to be English and proud to be British and only our independence from the EU can set us free... and for me that freedom and indepence is priceless; it is the cosy pro EU folk who want to keep us little England, in fact they don't want us to be English, Welsh, Scots or Irish or Brits even they want us all to be Europeans...There is nothing little about Norway or Switzerland who are both very rich nations enjoying their freedom of being in Europe and trading with the world , without being members of the EU club.” Its is time to give this cosy political London elite club a kick up the backside...for the sake of the nation good people of Eastleigh vote for Diane James and the UK Independence Party on Thursday. If so for generations to come people will remeber Eastleigh as the place that gave the nation hope for the future and cut us free from an economic disaster; the EU failed experiment and therefore the mass uncontrolled imigration that Blair & Brown government gave us.

So do the voters of Eastleigh want more of the same? Here is quick reminder of what these three great trendy liberal parties have done to our once great nation... more dishonesty, more self interest, more arrogance, more expense fiddling, more political correctness, more open door mass imigration, more pouring billions of £s into the very costly failed EU experiment, more appeasing militant minorities, more unequal one way equality, more thought police, more health and safety, more false green stealth taxes; higher fuel and domestic gas & electricity bills to fund the false quasi global warming new religion, more kicking of the poor, the sick and the disabled, more old people dying in their homes from the cold of winter too frightened to put their heating on because of extortionate 'green necessary prices', more fat cat bankers feeding their fat bank accounts even though they have lost billions of tax payers money, a NHS on its knees unable to cope with the mass influx of people from all over the world; unable to see a doctor a dentist unless you can afford to go private, a two tier education system, public school for the rich and powerful including hypocritical labour and liberal MPs etc ... if you want all of the above to continue then vote for the liberal Conservatives, or the Liberal Democrats or New Labour, it doesn't matter which they are all the same more or less but if you have had enough of all three, then vote for a real change, a new beginning for the nation, vote for Diane James and the UK Independence Party.
It is a school of economics that is a complete failure. Markets do not regulate themsleves - banks or horse meat or BSE!!!
Thatcher and the idiot Reagan and his astrologer decided to resurrect Neo Liberalism economics and Adam Smiths 'invisible hand' self correcting markets. The invisible hand that is making us all poorer by devaluing our currency.
Osborne with his 2:1 history degree (not even a 1st with the best education money could buy) just keeps following the same old dogma and is way out of his depth.
I am afraid Miliband and Balls are the best qualified applicants for the job. Labour are no longer a left wing party but more central these days. I have always gone with Tory in the past but research I have done has shown them to be Con Men pardon the pun.
The Tories take it from the tax payer and give it to the private sector! It all costs more in the end because you have to factor in profits that must increase year on year.

Over crowded country.
Can’t get jobs.
Can’t get to see your own doctor until a week ahead.
Filthy hospitals.
No police presence for ordinary people.
No where to live, not enough houses.
Thousands repossessed out of their homes.
Children living in poverty.
Pensioners living in poverty
Can’t afford a dentist.
Still things can only get better and mustn’t grumble.
I hope the three main political parties get the biggest kick up the backside, for they deserve it and you know what? It’s their fault.

UKIP have only one policy effectively - the give away is the name - and that policy is effectively making enemies - saying you are either with us or against us.
I'm proud to British too - incredibly so - and I'm fairly sure being British isn't about being divisive in such an extreme way.
What about people born here, who are just as proud to be British, but will obviously feel they will need to take sides? What about those brave men who have fought for this country, but have ties elsewhere?
Like it or not, UKIP, by it's very nature, will be divisive. Nothing will change that fact because they are a single issue party - and that policy is very much division of people - them and us, choose sides. I'm fairly sure our forefathers didn't fight and die to put up such barriers with other countries or other people though.
Look, we know things aren't working. They are a mess in parts. Personally I think we need to look at our whole position within the EU. Either way something needs to change. But the best way to change that isn't a single party, with a nothing else matters vision of division. Many countries currently see Britain as the epitome of decency. Britain won't look decent with lines in the sand.
Don't pretend the Lib Dems have some plan for a super Europe. It's rude and offensive. The Lib Dems want a strong Britain, one that's proud and does the right thing. The Lib Dems are here for the common man and woman. So if they think that the EU policies just aren't suiting us, they'll look at their own policies and change accordingly.
Don't pretend the Lib Dems are part of some cosy London elite either. They aren't. The best they have had in years in a minor part of a coalition government. So that means they have to effectively feed off the political scraps. So whilst the Tories are fighting tooth and tail for tax breaks for their rich friends, or to keep unscrupulous newspaper owners printing anything they want and to hell with the people, then it's the Lib Dems who are fighting for tax breaks for those working hard but underpaid, and also fighting for phone hacking victims to be heard.
But, being such a weaker partner, it means the Lib Dems can't always get what they want for the common man. They are called concessions and they are the reality of being a much lesser partner in a coalition.
The Lib Dems have never had power like the Tories or Labour. Labour and the Tories are the ones who've been able to make majority decisions. They are the ones, with their self interests, who have created this mess that the UK is in. The mess which the Lib Dems try their best to put right. The Tories have certainly done their own fair share of giving away our rights to Europe.
I think we'd all agree that, hand on heart, that this country wouldn't be in this self serving mess if the Lib Dems had had a chance at sole power.
That doesn't happen though because spin normally beats decency. Not in Eastleigh though. Normally it's a bastion of decency in this green and pleasant land of ours. Here's hoping that decency wins again tomorrow, but my goodness the dark forces of spin are out in numbers to try and stop that!

IT'S FINALLY POLLING DAY IN THE EASTLEIGH BY-ELECTION
Updated 11:06am Thursday 28th February 2013
10:23am
THE FLUORIDE PROTEST MARCH IS UNDERWAY AND ORGANSIERS ARE ANTICIPATING AS MANY AS 200 PEOPLE TAKING TO THE STREETS OF EASTLEIGH...
10:18am.
Just when you thought the protest marches were over, members of Hampshire Against Fluoridation are currently gathering in Eastleigh to make their voices heard.
They are planning a slow procession through the town to the Masonic Hall in Cranbury Road where voting will be taking place.
Their morning of action comes just weeks after health bosses admitted for the first time they don't expect fluoridation to be in place until 2014 - five years after it was given the green light.
The scheme, aimed at improving dental health, would cover parts of Southampton, Eastleigh, Totton, Netley and Rownhams.
Campaigners say the Strategic Health Authority (SHA) should now "give up" on the delayed project, saying it is "morally and ethically" wrong to fluoridate water while questions remain over its impact.
