Guiseley needed a late goal to overcome a very spirited Ossett Albion in their latest pre-season friendly.

There was a lot of effort from both teams at Dimple Wells on Saturday but very little in the way of chances.

Just one strike was enough to settle the game in the Conference North outfit’s favour and it came from substitute James Burgess ten minutes from time.

Lions boss Steve Kittrick was not impressed with his squad.

He said: “We were poor and they were the better side throughout. We have to get our finger out because if we turn up like that for the start of the season we will be competing for nothing.

“Guiseley is a scalp to these teams and Ossett almost got it, and they would have deserved it.

“We have Brighouse Town next (tomorrow night) and they will be the same, hungry and determined.

“These games are important because we could be facing these clubs in the FA Cup or FA Trophy and we have to have the right attitude. If our players don’t want to turn up then there in no point in them putting the shirt on.”
