HUNDREDS of Southampton residents have joined a mass protest against Government cuts today.

Coach loads of locals are going to London to crowds of thousands to a rally demonstrating against austerity measures and nuclear weapons.

Comedian Russell Brand and singer Charlotte Church will be among the crowds along with Unite general secretary Len McCluskey, Labour leadership candidate Jeremy Corbyn and Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness.

Sam Fairbairn of the People's Assembly, which is organising the demonstrations, said it will be “the start of a campaign of protest, strikes, direct action and civil disobedience up and down the country”.
