THREE more Hampshire MPs have been handed government roles by the new prime minister.

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery has been reappointed right hand man to Theresa May as she enters Downing Street, acting as her eyes and ears in parliament.

Caroline Nokes has been made parliamentary under secretary at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), while Winchester's Steve Brine has landed a role as assistant government whip.

But New Forest West MP Desmond Swayne lost his job as international development minister.

In a series of comic tweets yesterday he suggested the PM was trying to reach him but couldn't due to the forest's poor signal.

Mr Swayne has been replaced by Rory Stewart.

Mr Hollingbery described his appointed as parliamentary private secretary as a "huge honour".

He said: "It will be a privilege for me to act as her eyes and ears in the Commons and to liaise with Downing Street, the Chief Whip and my Conservative MP colleagues on a broad range of issues as they arise.

"The job is going to be challenging and extremely interesting, and I’m absolutely certain I will have my hands full, but I thank the Prime Minister for the trust she has shown in me."

Ms Nokes, who represents Romsey and Southampton North, said: "Having previously been a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the DWP I look forward to being able to hit the ground running in my new role.

"I will, of course, continue to be just as available to my constituents while carrying out my additional duties in the department.”

It follows two more appointments from Hampshire at the DWP.

Penny Mordaunt, for Portsmouth, and East Hampshire's Damian Hinds, were both made ministers yesterday.

Meanwhile, Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has moved from the Ministry of Justice to education, retaining her role as Minister for Women and Equalities.

The Conservative reshuffle is now understood to be complete.
