SHOULD parish councillors’ details be made public?
At Compton and Shawford Parish Council they have written to the most senior legal advisor at Winchester City Council expressing concern about the requirement to publish a “register of interests” on the city and parish websites.
The parish council, which has concerns about identity fraud, were told that they must abide by the law by being on the register.
It was reported that a potential councillor withdrew his interest in the role, after hearing that details would be published on the parish council website.
It was recommended that the parish council will write to Winchester MP Steve Brine about this issue.
