THE colour is blue in Eastleigh where the Conservatives have retained their seat.

A jubilant Mims Davies is celebrating her landslide  victory at Fleming Park, after she took more than 20,000 vote to secure Eastleigh.

Ms Davies has beaten Liberal Democrats candidate Mike Thornton once again, after her victory in 2015.

She said:"Winning again is amazing. I am jubilant."

She welcomed her victory with a bit of suprise after Liberal Demorcats tightened their grip in the borough at the county council election last month.

"We worked very hard because we felt the May results were very disappointing for us," she said.

Infrastractures, green spaces and security will be among her priorities.

She also said that if Theresa May loses the election she will make sure it will not have any impact on Eastleigh.

When asked if the recent terror attacks across the country could have an impact on the national results she said: "We really need a strong Prime Minister - security is a great concern for people."

Meanwhile Mr Thornton, who was Eastleigh MP between 2013 and 2015, congratulated Ms Davies.

He told the Echo that lots of the UKIP votes went to Conservatives and Labour and unless something different will happen in the future he will not be standing at the next election.

"I lost twice. Let's let someone else have a go", he said.

Mr Thornton will keep representing Bishopstoke and Fair Oak ward at the county council.

Meanwhike, It was a success for Labour, with Jill Payne reaching more than 11,000 votes.

The turnout in Eastleigh was 71 per cent.
