Tory bid to oust city council leader (From Daily Echo)

Will someone please get a grip on the local party and get them to hold back on these ridiculous publicity stunts.

The Conservative party should be above such infantile tactics and instead reflect on our defeat at the ballot box and look to debate and attack Labour policies.

Our leadership and priorities are all wrong!

I would have thought that it is an entirely internal matter for the Labour Party.

Did the Tories consider that they were misleading the public when they had internal disputes?

Surely there must be more important matters that should be occupying their minds.

Southampton City Council = 48 Councillors.

How desperate is Cllr Smith to be in the Echo. Inventing any old issue to see his name in lights.The biggest mystery though is not who said what between Williams and Morrell but how did the ex Council Leader and his party lose over 5000 votes to Labour on May 3rd. From hero to zero!!

This Labour lot look to be a useless and deceitful bunch but for the Tories to be moaning about them "bringing the council into disrepute" is pretty rich. When has a Tory politician been reputable... Hunt, Archer, The Hamiltons. The list is endless

Cllr Morell is not up to the job so he invents a reason to resign.

It's not difficult and we don't need an expensive full Council meeting for Royston to shed crocodile tears at our expense.

I think this is a valid move, it's clear that the local Labour party is disjointed and probably needs better leadership. The city deserves better leadership.

While they all 'tit-for-tat', who is dealing with the main issues of doing the best for the residents of the City

1)I checked the claims of St Densys ta and Royston Smith was only ever elected as a Tory cllr.

2)Sea City Museum and the CCTV contract. The council has an inquiry panel, it is called the overview and scrutiny panel. I believe it looked at the CCTV contract. There were plenty of questions asked by Labour about Sea City. And now they run the council so if there was anything dodgy don't you think they would release it?

3)Councillors should present the facts to the public. In the same way that Labour when they were the opposition asked questions of the Tory council and in the same way the Unions went on strike and protested against what they saw as an attack on workers rights, so have the Tories the right, indeed the public also to demand to know which councillor was telling the truth.

I would have thought the Labour party mouth pieces on here would agree with their Leader Dr Cllr Williams who says he welcomes it! If he welcomes it and feels he has nothing to hide then why are the Labour supporters on here getting themselves into a right state?

Because this is the same Dr Williams who gave an interview with the Echo only to retract it saying the Echo weren't saying the truth only for Barnes Andrews to resign from the shadow cabinet saying he didn't trust Williams over refuse collections?

1/ Royston stood as an idependant and then was ask to join the Torys, You find the true answer in the Eletrol office and not on Wilki.

Why don't you invesigate what was those leafletts that Royston was handing out, out side school gates.

2/ yes the council do have a inquiry panel, but it was not used for the CCTV or the City Museum well not as yet.

3/ yes the council should present the facts and should keep an open book on all matters, but sadly the Torys and Labour keep a close book on matters that concern Party matters, and this is for internal party matters, and don't concern the council yet, The Council Cabinet is being sorted out and its a matter for the Labour Party to do and not the Tory party to interfer with.

Paramjit we don't see eye to eye on politics but At National level Labour have been calling for an inquiry into Hunt/cultural secretary's handling of BskyB.
he was shown in the Levenson inquiry of using Legal advice on every move he took & had independent advisors so he could decide without bias.
Labour has just lost that vote.

If he has any pride at all, or concern for the Party, he should fall on his sword now - possibly with a bit of help. The worst possible scenarion is that the Labour Group will be forced to support him in the No Confidence motion, and they and the City will then be obliged to put up with him for years.
