UNIVERSITY lecturer Janice Hurne is standing as Labour's parliamentary candidate for New Forest West.
She has lived in Hampshire and Dorset for the last 24 years.
The mother-of-one teaches Higher education at Bournemouth University, prior to which she worked for ten years in the computing departments of the Civil Service.
Mrs Hurne is a member of socialist intellectual movement the Fabian Society, the lecturers' trade union NATFHE, the Co-operative Party and is a founding member of the Bournemouth in Europe campaigning group.
She lives in Bournemouth and is currently a school governor at both Kinson Primary School and Kings High School in the town She has previously been a councillor on Bournemouth Borough Council.
When not teaching, Mrs Hurne enjoys walking in the forest and on the coast.
She said: "We are working to create an opportunity-rich country where everyone can get on in the lives they live.
"That's why so much investment has been made in education to improve buildings, learning resources, and standards so that every child can reach their potential."
