Tories gain
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
At the last General Election, the Labour candidate told people to vote Liberal Democrat in New Forest East and the outcome was a bad result because even then, as people did not want to have Blair as Prime Minister.

Run a marathon in aid of charity
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
We, the Meningitis Trust, are looking to fill our guaranteed places for the Bank of America Chicago and Real, - Berlin marathons, both taking place later this year. These events provide the ideal challenge for people hoping to achieve something impressive before the year is up.

We're fighting for UK's interests
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
I am writing in response to recent letters about Britain's membership of the European Union.

What would really impress me with councillors
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
COUNCILLOR Don Thomas (In My View, April 30) nearly had me in tears telling us how devoted he is in being a ward councillor in Coxford.

E-mail is so much more efficient
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
I NOTE that my local Conservative MP, Dr Julian Lewis, thinks that he and his staff have no need for e-mail, relying on the good old tradition of letter writing (Letters, May 1).

Join in Fruity Friday
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
IT is not too late to get involved in this year's Fruity Friday on May 16.

IT is not too late to get involved in this year's Fruity Friday on May 16.

Join us at charity concert
10:00am Thursday 8th May 2008
On June 7, long term Meningitis Trust supporter, Martin Hudson will be holding a special charity concert at the Temple Methodist Church, Upper High Street, Taunton. Somerset.

An elected mayor would give us real democracy
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
THERE is nothing more reassuring than seeing democracy in action. Locally this rag-tag bunch of opportunists, both Liberal Democrat and Labour, were shown the door by Southampton's electorate. But make no mistake; this was not democracy in action.

We need a man of vision
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
I AM very surprised that no one has taken up Daily Echo editor Ian Murray's suggestion of an elected mayor for Southampton.

I salute young Tories
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
TIME and time again you hear that young people are not interested in politics. However, no one can say that again in Southampton.

Tackle the concerns over foreign cabbies
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
I'M sorry but surely there are more important things going on to worry about than what a taxi driver wears. If people want drivers in suits and opening doors for them, get a chauffeur.

OAPs deserve a big increase too
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
YOU certainly have to hand it to the politicians for their gall. Their spokesman reckons because there is cross-party agreement to the proposed £15,000 increase in the salary, it must be acceptable!

Labour’s poll spin
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
IT is always interesting to see Labour trying to spin themselves out of a hole. The disastrous local election results where they lost 15 out of the 17 seats they contested in last Thursday's local elections in Southampton is a case in point.

You earned medal, Harry
10:00am Wednesday 7th May 2008
WEAR it with pride, Harry. This is a medal you earned, not one of the royal freebies. There is nothing more sickening than watching the royal family parading in uniforms covered in medals that mean nothing but the bed they were born in.

Merger would be a disaster
3:42pm Tuesday 6th May 2008
AFTER the shambles over the issue of bus passes in Southampton, does Eastleigh Council really want to merge with them? Their excuse that it was due to matters outside of their control is not convincing.

Councils are left to pick up the pieces
10:00am Monday 5th May 2008
LISTENING the other day to MPs' frustrations with regard to their constituencies, I realise Southampton is not alone and and blocks of flats are being built nationwide in towns and villages which are getting larger.

Just a money-grabbing event
10:00am Monday 5th May 2008
WHY does the city council always make a mess of events such as the Caribbean festival? Is it time to employ an expert company using competitive tendering and dump the council department?

A neighbour from hell
10:00am Monday 5th May 2008
AFTER reading the article headlined Neighbour Put Family Through Years of Hell (Daily Echo, April 24), I feel complelled to write to you.

Ann’s totally dedicated
10:00am Monday 5th May 2008
I HAVE been concerned recently to see in the local press and on television about the problems arising over the recent St Francis Animal Welfare AGM, but was absolutely appalled to read the Daily Echo (April 26) that the manageress, Ann Hillman, has been suspended and the shelter temporarily closed.
