Pedestrian crossing is badly needed

I LIVE in Captain's Place and my nearest shop is Spar, operating out of Mercury Point halls of residence.

I am registered partially sighted and find crossing the road at the four-way traffic lights very difficult.

A city council official told me that putting a pedestrian crossing at that junction would disrupt the flow of traffic.

Since Ikea is to be built in the city, causing huge disruption, I find it hypocritical of the council to cite disruption of traffic as the reason for not installing a crossing.

The ambient light makes it impossible for me to see when I can cross and only at low light levels can I do so. A pedestrian crossing would make my visits to the shops less of a hazard.
