    So-called 'sale' of playing fields

IN response to concerns raised about the so- called 'sale' of Bitterne Park School playing fields, can we stress that this is far from the case.

As custodians of the school we know that selling playing fields is the last thing we should do. The lease agreement has secured a massive improvement of an area that has always been unsuitable and unused as a sports field. Rather then being an unused green space (which is out of bounds in the winter), the area will be transformed for all-year round school and community use. This facility will contribute far more to the anti-obesity, healthy school awareness campaign than the status quo would ever have achieved.

We would like to thank Southampton City Council for supporting this exciting venture and look forward to seeing hundreds of young people enjoying themselves!

SUSAN TRIGGER, Bitterne Park School, Southampton.
