Ration water
WHEN I see someone hosing down a vehicle, I ask "Is that water from the tap?" To which the answer is "Mind your own business, I'm paying for it".
That is to say "If the ego wills it, use". There will always be more tomorrow.
But suppose that the lines of supply are not steady, because they are neither home owned or home made? That's where we are with petroleum (and with all the domestic utility suppliers connected to it).
The present crack in unreasonable consumer expectations gives any governing body the chance to right some mistakes. The solution is to address the problem at home; and to pragmatically ration supplies, otherwise the wasters will keep the price high.
The guilty are not hidden. For petrol guilt see those who drive their dogs to walk; tradesmen with fat gutted status trucks; teenage boy riders ruining for show; obsessive school run mothers keeping children from real life. For energy guilt see un-natural health and leisure institutions; 24/7 enterprises that churn out throwaway product; the overkill of CCTV.
For far too long now, such have been scrounging supplies that should be going to others. The wasters would be given a period of notice to change their ways - before losing their allowance. Let such practices commence, so that those with respect for resources have more chance of success.
