Fluoridation
The discussion about the plans to add fluoride to Hampshire's water supply is very important.
On one hand it is clear that medical research in most European countries has resulted in their governments banning fluoridation of drinking water and in some countries even fluoride tooth-paste is now illegal.
They are convinced that it can cause serious toxic reactions including brain problems.
On the other hand dentists in this country seem to be in favour of fluoride.
There could be a political explanation for this very surprising difference of opinion between such learned groups.
We know that the Green Party are against fluoridation because Dr Lucas, our Green MEP, has written to the health authority to protest against the plan to add fluoride to water.
At the same time we discover that the Labour Party are in favour of fluoridation since Gordon Brown stated that he is aware of the advantages and has committed £14m to it's introduction. Perhaps he already takes fluoride.
When my friend's dentist recommended fluoride toothpaste she said that she did not like the idea of putting a well known poison into her mouth.
Her dentist explained that the fluoride would kill any bacteria including those that might otherwise damage her teeth and in any case he was not suggesting that she should swallow the stuff.
Perhaps we should not be too surprised when NHS bosses support the same opinion as the Government that pays their salaries.
Does anyone know which team the Conservative Party supports?
